Howard Richard Lieberman

Chairman and CEO of the Silicon Valley Innovation Institute

Mr. Howard Lieberman is a serial intrepreneur, entrepreneur, educator and master of innovation management.  After completing university programs in both Physics and Electrical Engineering, Howard spent fifteen years working for two large technology companies, Bose (in research, engineering, strategic planning, and managing new ventures) and then Apple (simultaneously in both engineering and marketing).  Lieberman shipped more than a billion dollars of innovative sound based products at Bose and Apple including several world firsts.

He then spent ten years as an entrepreneur, college professor, dean and consultant. Lieberman has founded five sound centric companies: Interactive Visual Analysis Languages (INTERVAL), Integrated Acoustics, Escatech Media Inc., Dorado and Asonda Corp. He invented new technologies at all of the companies he founded, as well as at Bose and Apple including analog & digital audio hardware and adaptive content software architectures. Mr.Lieberman has consulted to and managed teams for more than a dozen Fortune 500 and smaller companies including 3Com, Altec Lansing, Apple, Amdahl, ASCII Corporation, Bose, Boston Acoustics, Cienna, Ensoniq, Fishman Transducers, Harman International, JBL, Kurzweil Music Systems, Martin Guitars, Sony, Sun, Taligent, Tektronix, Walmart, Webcor, XL Insurance, Zenith.  Projects included audio product research, technical development and digital marketing collateral materials such as demos, kiosks, CD-ROMS, video walls, sales & marketing tools. The common denominator to almost all of these activities was pioneering work in sound or audio over the full range from analog to digital, acoustics, circuitry, software, microphones, speakers and measurements.

Mr. Lieberman has been a Dean, as well as a Professor of Innovation Management, Aesthetic Engineering, and Physics and Electrical Engineering (in Acoustics and Digital Audio) for Cogswell Polytechnical College. He has chaired a Summit on the Globalization of Technology and chaired the SCI3 Foundation Board.  SCI3 was the Sunnyvale Center for Innovation, Ideas and Invention.

Since 2005 he has been applying these experiences as an innovator, innovation manger and innovation educator by founding and running the Silicon Valley Innovation Institute where he often finds himself functioning as an innovation articulator. Lieberman is in the process of incorporating his sixth company focused on improving the sound quality of cellphones and enabling sound centric computing. He is also active at the other end of the sound spectrum as a composer and performing jazz musician.
